HOMELESS SERVICES

Tri-Valley Haven offers services for homeless individuals and families in severe economic need, including shelter, a food pantry, and transitional housing. We believe in effectively aiding homeless individuals and families by creating a pathway to solve their challenges and heal their trauma. The Haven empowers individuals affected by poverty so they can be self-sufficient and graduate into stable, permanent housing.

Homeless Shelter

Tri-Valley Haven’s homeless shelter Sojourner House, provides temporary shelter for homeless families in a safe and supportive environment. Sojourner House is a 16-bed facility with separate bedrooms for families, a fully-stocked kitchen, 3 full baths, and laundry facilities. Clients can stay of up to 6 months or longer. Staff are onsite or available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. Sojourner House serves two-parent families, families with teen-age boys, single mothers with children, single fathers with children, and single women. Our shelter does maintain a waitlist and incoming clients must pass a background check and be suitable for communal living.

Food Pantry

Located at 150 N L Street in Livermore, the Tri-Valley Haven Food Pantry distributes free groceries to low-income Tri-Valley residents. The TVH Food Pantry not only provides food for people in need each month, but it also serves as a gateway to Tri-Valley Haven’s homeless services. Each month, the Haven provides free groceries, fresh fruit and veggies to well over 4,000 Tri-Valley residents. Food Pantry is utilizing the “client choice” model. This model empowers food pantry clients, or guests, to pick food that is appropriate for their and their family’s dietary needs.

Linkages

Tri-Valley Haven’s Linkages Program provides clients with rental subsidy assistance. A Linkages rental subsidy allows clients to have housing stability for a period of time, during which the client can find a better-paying job, attend full-time vocational training, or obtain more education in order to acquire a higher income and become economically self-sufficient.

Life Skills

Residents of Sojourner House have the opportunity to attend life skill classes twice a week to become more self-sufficient and independent. Many survivors of domestic abuse have been severely isolated by their abusers. Some have never finished their education or weren’t allowed to learn English; others have not been allowed to work. Some survivors report that they were never allowed to handle money or manage a household budget. Life skills are a necessity for survivors beginning a new life on their own. Tri-Valley Haven offers tutoring to children of Sojourner House to assist with online schooling, homework, testing, and reading.

Did you know?

Tri-Valley Haven’s Homeless Shelter is named Sojourner House in honor of this incredible suffragette and abolitionist.

A former slave, Sojourner Truth became an outspoken advocate for abolition, temperance, and women’s rights in the 19th century.

In 1851, Truth began a lecture tour that included a women’s rights conference in Ohio, where she delivered her famous “Ain’t I a Woman?” speech.

In it, she challenged prevailing notions of racial and gender inferiority and inequality by reminding listeners of her combined strength (Truth was nearly six feet tall) and female status.

She never learned to read or write.
