Legal Services Advocate
LEGAL SERVICES ADVOCATE
Non-Exempt ~ Part-time (36 hours per week)
Hiring Range: $22.57 – $27.59 per hour
General Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Director of Domestic Violence Services, the Legal Services Advocate will oversee the TRO (Temporary Restraining Order) Clinic. The Legal Services Advocate will train and assist volunteers with interviewing clients and completing TRO applications. The Legal Services Advocate will train both staff and volunteer advocates. The Legal Services Advocate will also assist with Tri-Valley Haven special events.
General Requirements: MA/MS/MSW preferred. Working knowledge of legal procedures and TRO standards. Two years’ experience working with survivors of domestic violence. Ability to work independently, manage time and tasks effectively. Completion of Agency Training within 6 months of employment (if not before).
SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
RESPONSIBLE FOR CLIENT SERVICES AT TVH TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDER CLINICS
- Oversees the work of Legal Clinic volunteers.
- Trains Legal Clinic volunteers.
- Work with volunteers and other staff interviewing clients and completing TRO applications.
- Files and picks up court documents.
- Attend court hearings when available.
- Processes special court orders as appropriate.
- Acts as liaison between TVH and volunteer attorneys.
- Ensures that client materials are completed in an accurate and timely manner.
- Responsible for attaining grant objectives in each specified area.
- Compiles accurate statistics for funding sources and internal use, Statistics and other agency documentation; must be turned in by the 5th of every month.
- Handle cases efficiently and accept donations as appropriate to the Legal Clinic.
- Maintain good knowledge of changes in laws that directly affect the clients we serve.
- Complies with all legal and ethical mandates regarding client welfare.
- Networks/consults with other professional on behalf of clients.
GENERAL TASKS – Performs general tasks and represents Tri-Valley Haven in a professional manner as needed.
- Must comply with all laws, including elder abuse reporting, CPS reporting, 5150 laws and suicide assessment.
- Attends staff meetings and Board/Staff meetings as needed.
- Participates in community outreach as needed.
- Participates in community fundraising and special events as required.
- Must have a valid California driver license and an insured automobile that employee will use as necessary for agency related business, including transportation of clients.
- Must maintain a good Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) to be able to drive for the agency.
OTHER TASKS AS ASSIGNED BY THE DIRECTOR OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND/OR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR WITHIN THE SCOPE OF TRI-VALLEY HAVEN’S MISSION.
